As part of the Environmental Scholars Program at Boston College, Ana was able to closely work with a mentor to develop and execute an experiment to study the behavior of Lepidoptera. The original experiment was designed to test the correlation between body size and diet. The data actually gathered did not render conclusive results indicating whether body size varied as a result of a generalist or specialist diet. The results did, however, indicate that Lepidoptera tend to favor a specific type of bait juice utilized during the experiment. Since the experiment was carried out during the late winter/early spring in a temperate, deciduous forest, further experimentation should be conducted to test the efficacy of the tested bait juices in different seasons and biomes. In future experiments where this class of insect is studied in this type of environment, the more effective bait juice should be utilized since it attracted a greater number of species and individual insects.
